James Matan is an attackman on the University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse team. Originally from Kensington, Maryland, and a Gonzaga College High School alum, he was ranked among the top recruits in the nation and quickly made his mark at UNC.

On the field, James has shown consistency, playmaking ability, and leadership, starting all games in the 2025 season, contributing both goals and assists, and standing out in key matchups. He is also recognized academically, having been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Off the field, James embraces the 3‑Win mindset by partnering with organizations and causes that align with his values. He seeks not just athletic excellence but community impact, authenticity, and growth beyond sport.
